Description
After walking thru the crazy, crowded streets, looking at more cars** than I ever wanted to see, I needed to find some peace. Right in the middle of town, there's this magic place. It's a second growth redwood grove, and 5 minutes later, there was pure silence. I was less than a city block from the crowds and all I heard was an occasional bird and the sound of my own footsteps. I hiked for over an hour; it just doesn't get much better than this.

Second growth? I know a lot of redwoods were cut for lumber in the early 1900s. Is this one of those areas? It must have been a wonderful experience.

(I'm skipping ahead from the other shots I commented on, only so I can get to some other artists tonight, but I'll comment on the others soon.) This is masterful to me, your light is miraculous, and the texture of the tree with all that moss growing up it is sumptuous. Plus your background is given in deep dark hues and it makes a very dramatic contrast to the tree; and you caught a swath of growths at the bottom which are beautiful; and the lights sneaking through in the left side are beautiful too. A dramatic beautiful shot, and perfect for the moment you described. Brilliant piece of seeing.
