Description

Well, ah do declaih. Captured 5/25/09, at the beautiful Los Angeles National Cemetery in beautiful West Los Angeles, California. More than 86,000 veterans, going back to the Civil War, are interred there. A ZOOM is strongly recommended. Frankly, my dear, I don't believe this is what Margaret Mitchell had in mind when she was creating the image of Scarlett O'Hara in her world famous novel, Gone With The Wind...although the lady on the right in the top foto has a lot to offer. How would Clark Gable have reacted to these ladies as costars? And, quite an anachronism with those modern horseless carriages in the background. The hoop skirts are most becoming. The belle in the second photo is shown patiently waiting for her man to come home from the war; the third picture shows a pair commiserating; and the fourth shot shows a belle talking to her pet doggie right after she released it from the duffel bag she's holding. More detailed shots of the cannon and soldiers in the background are coming up later in this series. Tallyho, and toodles.

Looks like the lady in the fourth pic has some of that good ole southern plastic and nylon in her dog carrier. Made in Richmond no doubt:-) Great and humorous collage today Harry.

On hoop skirts: okay for square dancing; otherwise impractical, clownish and a waste of material.

That must have been a fantastic day, what with all you have shown so far and more to come I'm sure. Love the Southern Belles.

Oh, they look like they would be so hot in all that fabric! Having lived in the south I know very well how humid and uncomfortable it can be in modern clothing, much less all those layers. God bless the advent of air conditioning! Excellent collage of the ladies, Harry.

yeah, this is a riot! And your juxtapositions are great: The top women against the cars (horseless carriages); the second shot where the lady looks like she's just plain pooped (or bored), even though she's dressed to go to a ball; the third, with those modern-clad people right behind them; and the fourth—the sine qua non!—with that lady in the 19th C. gown carrying a modern nylon bag (thanks bill) and a modern camera (!) in front of an old cannon! Great captures and very funny, and a nice addition to the largely & naturally male-centered shots of soldiers. Love this montage. I haven't tired of these yet, harry!
