Description

I'm sure the reason for the dedication is obvious to anyone who has seen Bill's gallery ... it is home to so many beautiful backyard birds! :) Thank you, my friend, for your inspiration. The only songbird in my gallery! When I was at MooseRidge last weekend I came upon this robin. He looks a little frazzled, but I think he'd probably just gotten out of the bath. This was shot hand held and zoom, and I feel quite fortunate that it turned out as well as it did! I'm no wildlife photographer ... things that hold still are more my baliwick ... but I guess sometimes the shutter clicks just at the right time! ---> Thanks to Andrea for reminding me to tell you the latin name, for those of you who wonder about these things. This common robin rejoices in the moniker of "turdus migratorius." No, I'm not kidding! Zoom is good.

I love how his feathers just seem to be standing on end, gives him that kind of frazzled look. Don't we all know that feeling! The perfect dedi for Bill!!

This is a very fine shot indeed. For a hand held shot, really well done! But!!! Shock! 69mm Zoom! Ha! Try 300mm Hand held at an airshow trying to shot a moving aircraft... Lol.... Rob

it's really a nice shot, Tara, and the detail of both the surface it's standing on its feathers is quite fine. (Yeah, he does look a little rattled...) And who better to dedicate it to than Bill, with his wonderful and always fresh collection of bird shots! If you're interested (here goes) I looked up "turdus" and it has nothing to do with excrement. ("Thank you!" said the robin.) It's Latin for "Thrush". And if you want to know where "thrush" comes from—well, you don't wanna know. (Borrrrrring.) Just know it's related to one of the all time great words in English, "throstle". No, not "thro-TTLE," but "thro-STLE". Do I know the word? Not a bit. But I'm gonna start saying it damn soon. (Examples: "Don't touch the throstle: You'll get hurt!" Or, "Did you leave the throstle home again??? How will we start this car???") A very nice shot...
