"It's the corruption that brings me back. The bloated stench of avarice calling me from fitful rest. And like a festering boil, all you can do to make it subside is lance it open, and squeeze it out. But it never really heals. It just fills up again. It's called me from beyond so many times. In Rome, it was so bad I didn't even stand out, just one of the countless visigoths making the gutters run red. In London...ah, in London they knew. They never said, but they knew. Those were the good days, the best days.
In London, they used to call me Jack. I wonder what they'll call me this time...."

The scenario reminds me of one of the original episodes of Star Trek: the Original Series. This guy doesn't seem all that viscious looking; more to be pitied than feared, but then that may be how he draws his victims into striking range.
