Description
Captured 4/20/09, early in the morning, approximately 1.8 miles/2.9 kilometers from my habitat.
Better viewed full size.
This plant really caught my eye with its large exotic leaves/petals, smaller but similar in shape to the common Elephant Ear plant, and, as is my addiction, I took more shots of it than necessary, but I was so mesmerized by the colorful, gleaming and seductiveness of it all that I couldn't resist the temptation.
And I assume there are floral connoisseurs out there in Rendoland that can ID this beauty in a flash.
Achtung, achtung:
morningglory has come to our rescue and has identified this as a Beefsteak Plant (Iresine herbstii), and this variety as "Brilliantissima." Check out her comment below.
Thank you so much for the research and info, MG!
Tallyho, and toodles.

I know I've seen these, but the ID is not coming to mind; it's almost like a coleus, but shiny instead of velvety. Very, very beautiful plant, I want it in my garden! Excellent captures, Harry...

I don't know flowers/plants but it looks like it should be growing in Hawaii. I'll wager it isn't native to California.

Don't know either but look super cool!

I enquired on a gardening website and they identified this as Beefsteak Plant (Iresine herbstii), and the variety one named "Brilliantissima". And that name fits.

I would have said a "Ti" plant, but guess morning glory got the real deal. It IS gorgeous!1

Well - well done to morningglory for IDing it! What a wonderful plant to have in a garden Harry - it will bring awesome contrast and color amongst finer greenery! Wonderful captures indeed! :)

aka coleus maybe. I can't tell how big the leaves are for sure, but it looks a lot like mine did. The kids used to call it mom's painted plant.

Beef steak it is! Break out the salad dressing...add some Nasturtiums? no? lol Nice shots, Harry.

wow, big bold undulating & in-your-face shots of those beautiful furrowed leaves. I don't know plant names, so I'm happy to take "beefsteak" any day. (I don't know what Nasturtiums are either: They don't sound edible, lol, so I'll pass on dinner!) I like the multiple shots, they make a big eye-assault, and—small point, but big for us ex-graphics people—your dividing-lines (ie the proportion of space between pics) is well chosen, as is your sequence from largest to smallest shot. A real cornucopia when seen together. Big bold & a lotta fun too.
