Description

Set to the music of "After the ball is over." Captured 8/4/09, early in the morning, covering an area from my condo to 1.6 miles/2.58 kilometers away. Better viewed full size. Denise posted a lovely photo of mushroom clouds, possibly radioactive, a couple of days ago, so here is my contribution to the genre. Actually, these clouds were merely remnants of a storm that had drifted up from Mexico, and, except for some portions of Orange County, were essentially devoid of moisture. I know most of this stuff is old hat to most of you, and you get rain and pretty clouds all the time, but for us in bone dry Southern California, it is a rarity, and well worth recording. We do have morning overcasts, but when they burn off all we have are washed out and somwhat fuzzy, amorphous clouds, dimly contrasted against the hazy skies. I have more pics of this particular phenomena in my files, which will be posted as time goes by. Tallyho, and toodles.

Gorgeous cloudscape Harry. Delight to see some action up in a sky. Here we have wonderful flat blue sky or a boring grey. Great collage and I like a palmtree row on the last shot too.

Clouds do have to fight for their existance over Southern California don't they? Excellent piece of photography Harry. Mostly clear skies made flying light planes over California heavenly for me 40 years ago.

Beautiful skies and clouds. I guess these are pretty commonplace in Florida and most people take them for granted. I really enjoy cloud-watching when I am outside, though.

Great shots! I like the palm trees in the last image. We do get nice clouds in south central Texas, but unfortunately they haven't carried any rain lately :(

I remember being so disappointed by these kind of ragtag clouds as a kid; I always wanted it to rain, and these never would! Great series of shots, Harry.

fine captures, harry, and you go from land shots to pure sky & back. The bottom one has a fine group of trees (palms?) leaning into the pic, and the top two really do look ominous, with clouds looming over the land. Good examples of two varieties of light, with darker & more ominous on top & the lighter on bottom. And thanks for the info: I never thought about your scarcity of clouds & storms...in Chicago, we could give you half of ours & we'd still be inundated. Good montage too (and I noticed that the bottom two have alternating cloud directions...nice touch, Harry) Oh, and that song! Well Jodie & I are musicians so we're likely to remember. That's an old song—that predates everyone on Rosity! Well if you want a nice recording, here's a fun old one, w/ barbershop quartet & all. The refrain doesn't come till a minute into the song, but if you're in the mood, it's here.
