Description

Captured 4/4/09, at the semibeautiful Chino Planes of Fame Museum in the semibeautiful Chino Airport in semibeautiful Chino, California. Better viewed full size. Well now, back to the wonderful world of aircraft. These pictures were taken before the P-38 Lightning flyover. I believe the fellow on the right of the armed P-38 pilot in the bottom two shots may have flown the chase plane during the exhibition. Actually, I was extremely disappointed at the flyover. I had expected the Lightning to come zooming over at treetop level, with its cannon and machine guns blazing away, shredding the tarmac into little bits, and sending the onlookers into a panic, but no such luck. Instead, possibly due to FAA or state regulations, the P-38 flew extremely high, at least to my way of thinking, which made it practically imperceptible at that height. Fortunately, I did catch a few shots of it as it flew over. In contrast, Debbielove's splendid grandstand shots of his WWII aircraft in flight are miles/kms ahead of what I witnessed. Tallyho, and toodles.

Great shots of the pilot and sidekick with a look of success upon both faces! Great close-ups of them and the plane. Nice job, Harry.

Yikes, I'm not sure what I'd think about guns shredding the ground as they raced over... These guys look quite confident and competent; excellent portraits!

Well! If you got a P-38, you need a P-38 pilot... Great looking dude and dressed for the moment... Great captures! Rob.

Very nice indeed Harry... They do look content - both pilot and sidekick! Pity they didn't meet your expectations! LOL...

The photography as always is spot on Harry, and how wonderful to be able to see those old planes fly overhead. Thank goodness the pilots didn't think like you, or otherwise the whole crowd could have been a right off LOL. hugs Jane xxx

your capture of the two men casually 'hanging around' before the flight, their postures alert but totally at ease, is wonderful. And the top shot of the pilot entering/exiting the arena is also wonderfully natural and relaxed; and your clarity & light are really deep. I also love how the pilot is leaning on an open door in the last shot, a really fine casual moment. These have a very relaxed and engaging feel, I really like the shots; and the light & clarity are as good as it can get in this field, I assume. I love the attitude of the pilot in all 3 shots, and his smile in #1 is infectious. Fine work Harry. Very humanly full.
