Description
Here you can see other roses evading restriction. You can also see the second floor of the Liberty villa. This one and its twin were re-painted 2-3 years ago, so the colors are still bright. This is the strongest hue of the so-called Venetian red, which is typical of my region, together with a strong rosy pink, salmon pink and mustard yellow. The band decorating the highest part of the building represents a battle in the Middle Ages. Painting the exterior of the buildings with scenes is a tradition handed down from the Renaissance. I think it disappeared in the 1920, when middle class houses began to be painted more simply, or covered with grés tiles in the 1950s-1960s. I know about that because my dad sold these tiles (and also those for kitchens and bathrooms).Flavia and me had to give a hand when a truck arrived to unload it. Those boxes were heavy!
For those marvelling at the barbed wire, actually thieves are becoming bolder and bolder, especially since Eastern Europe was opened to the free movement of people. They are also very violent. Fencing gardens, with chain fence or beautiful ironwork, however, (but not barricading the property, at least since the Dark Ages!), is an Italian tradition, which is very different from the 'open' gardens of the Anglo-Saxon countries.
