Description
It's probably odd to send a WWI bomber as a "Get Well Card". But I'm odd, and I know how much Bill (bmac62) likes also this kind of birds.
Get Well Soon, Bill we are missing you!!!
The G.IV was one of the standard twin-engine G-type bombers built by the Allgemeine Elektrizitaets Gesellschaft of Berlin. It was used principally for tactical bombing of targets within a short range of its base rather than as a long-range strategic bomber. The A.E.G. Company pionereed the use of metal rather than wooden construction in their standard twin-engine bombers and the G.IV was an early attempt at applying these methods to a large aircraft.
The G.IV normally carried a crew of three, a pilot and two gunners, but there were room also for an additional crew member, an observer or a commanding officer.
The G.IV war difficult to fly without a gunner in the nose position, and there were problems with elevator control, particularly when landing.
The speciman in the Canadian Air Museum is the only surviving example of the A.E.G. G.IV, the only twin-engine German WWI aircraft in existence, and the only surviving machine displaying the dark lozenge-pattern camouflage used by the Germans for night flight in WWI. It was captured and shipped to Canada as war trophy in 1919.
Don't worry the next Canals of New Mars episode is coming soon!

Great dedi to Bill, Flavia. I learned something from this upload. For one thing, Allgemeine Elektrizitaets Gesellschaft didn't ring a bell until you put it as A.E.G. With that I am as familiar as I am with Siemens, Borsik and DWM, all companies located in Berlin. By the way, DWM used to be Deutsche Waffen und Munition and after WWII it became Deutsche Waggon and Maschinen. I didn't know AEG built aircraft during the the Big War. I also enjoy your images of Canals of New Mars episodes, except they are over my head since I am not familiar with their origins.

A wonderful dedi to great guy and a fine AEG bomber. I'll have to get up to Canada again and check the museum out.

a beautiful & fitting get well for our friend Bill. How can he not like it, with the "other" kinds of birds (lol)? It's a nice montage of plane against that sky, and in front of that tree which gives it a lot of life. And the details of the fliers in that old WWI plane are just delightful. Get well to Bill, from me too. A fine & caring dedi.

Flavia...I didn't see this until today:-( It is great:-) Thank you so much! The day you posted this I was five days out of surgery and I didn't look at a thing until about the 6th of September. This is so cool...night flying with all those wonderful stars. Forgive me for missing this in August but now, four months later, I am enjoying it immensely.
