I GIVE UP!!!
I’m pretty good at finding the ID of what I’m posting but this one stumps me. I’ve looked at around 1500 Dragonflies 300+ pages on one site with 12 to 15 shots on each page along with several other sites. I can get close but not exact. The Male Widow Skimmer as well as several others was close; same body and color but they had no wing patches or the wrong wing patches so that gives me pause on a positive ID. I don’t like to post with out a correct ID but for know I give up, LOL. Ok back to the Picture.
Another photo treasure from the end of the trail I played around some with the in camera white balance on this shot and he was kind enough to give me some time to experiment with the settings. I like the result of this shot using the fluorescent white balance, didn’t change the color of the dragonfly that I can tell but made a nice difference in the background color tones. Just a little artistic license hope you agree.
Thank you very much for the favs on my previous posts. And thanks so much for stopping by too take a look and comment on my photo treasures at the end of the trail. Have a great week.

Excellent capture, and I'm happy to see this skimmer even if we don't know his exact name. That's optional, I hope. Wish I could help. You sound frustrated.

Excellent capture! For all we know, this could be a new species! That's why you can't find it anywhere
MrsRatbag
Very nicely done, but I can't help on ID, I just call it a dragonfly...

A fantastic treasure for sure! Love the white balance trick!

Perhaps if you could get a DNA sample. This looks like the one Cheri posted awhile back, I don't think she go the name of it either. I agree with MrsRatbag, and leave it go at dragonfly. That is, unless you actually can get a DNA sample...I've seen a lot of dragonflies posted this summer, yours is exceptional, and zoomed in is just awesome! Beautiful capture!!

Really nice clear shot. Love the color balance as well. No idea on an ID as I rarely shoot DFs. They never sit still for me. You could put the image up at BugGuide.net in the ID Request and I am sure someone will help point you in the right direction.
