Description

I know this is a male because (even though this image does not show the side of the wings), it did not have a white diamond shaped spot on its front wings. Ebony Jewelwings are one of the very few Damselflies I can identify. They are also the largest (by far) Damselfly in my area. Most of the time when this species is seen, they appear to be jet black. However, a little sunlight on them creates reflections of intense blue and/or green. This one was in full sunlight. In my experience, they almost always are found in very shady areas around one of the small creeks on my property but on rare occasions, I see a few around my pond. This image was taken at the pond.
