Description

Captured 8/15/09, around 10:45 AM, at the beautiful Huntington Botanical Gardens in beautiful San Marino, California. Much better viewed full size. Pictured are a lily pond, lily pads, water lilies, a duck, and a koi fish, totaling five elements, all existing in complete harmony. I visited the lovely and vast Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens over the past two Saturdays. Because there was so much to see and photograph I had to break it into two sessions. If I was a lot younger I could have done it in just one visit, but that would have been rushing things. It is rather hilly on many areas of the grounds so that also contributed to my physical limits. In case you're interested, it was about a 42-mile round trip to the grounds, with bumper-to-bumper traffic coming home. On the real minus side, I lost my clip-on sunglasses somewhere on the extensive acreage, which was a real bummer. I also visited the place back in May, but the day was so overcast it made for lousy picture-taking. Anyway, I made it a point to get to the Huntington when it first opened so I could beat the contamination of people and hot weather that occurred about an hour later. Speaking of people, the Huntington attracts up to 500,000 visitors/tourists a year -- including countless cameras -- from all over the world. Hence, I was recipient to a myriad of foreign tongues as I meandered, climbed, kneeled, photographed and stumbled about. Needless to say, I took tons and tons of photos, and, after the necessary postwork, will be uploading them onto Renderosity as time goes by. Incidentally, I took 109 shots of the koi alone. Also took oodles and oodles of desert garden cacti fotos. As a result, I don't know which one of us will wear out first, Photoshop or myself. Toodles, and tallyho.

Nicely composed and captured, Harry. It's always a challenge to get this kind of shot in the bright sun, you did well!

Wonderful shot O'lboy, this looks like one peaceful and serene place to be. Love the Koi, it could almost be a sub, doing a 180 to torpedo the mallard perhaps!!!!!

since I've been in your gallery, I haven't seen too many single shots: It's a real change for me! It's a lovely shot, Harry. And I agree, it must be hard to capture these shots in the light you were dealing with. It's a quiet & reflective shot, very peaceful, and the water's hues are broken up by the reflections & by the duck & fish swimming opposite directions—a really nice moment you captured. It looks like a little universe in this capture. You know, I've heard of the Huntington, but never having been in California, I've never seen it. I'll look forward to your other pics. (Hope you got new clip ons!) And while I always see full-view, this one really shows things, full-view: The flowers suddenly become visible, as do the lights on the leaves, etc. Very sensitive work.

I Love this one!!! It's just so grand to me. A fave to be sure. When we were in Yellowstone we heard several different languages also and wondered if anyone else was American!

Beautiful shot! Love all the different elements and that the duck and koi fish are swimming serenely in opposite directions, totally indifferent to the others presence.
