Description

This is, quite literally, the way I see things. The large center image is a photograph of the inside of my left eye (the retina). For comparison, the bottom right-hand image is my right eye, which is (so far) undamaged. Everything you see that looks black or gray or cloudy ... I have no vision in those spots. (If this is all news to you, see my homepage for background.) Please don't think my left eye is several times the size of my right eye! They're the same size. This is ART! If all this creeps you out, just think of it as space art. You know ... planets in a far-flung solar system or something. It was tough figuring out what genre to use. I chose "challenge" because my vision issues really are my biggest challenge! Credits: Eye photographs taken by Dr. Douglas Barton. Granite spheres photographed by Einzie1. Everything else was done by me.

A great way to demonstrate the problem you have to deal with Tara. It gets the point across very well.

Of course everyone is sympathetic with what happened with your eye, as they should be. It was one of the changing and painful experiences of your life. But then we see how you've plowed ahead with your art, not letting anything stop you, and producing all this amazing imagery; and that's a heartening encouragement to all of us. But then there's the image: You have to know, this is an amazing montage, and the fact that you're responsible for much of the imagery shows how creative you are. I love the chart, whether written by you or compiled from printed charts—it reminds me of that memory piece you did with one of my images, with handwritten letters floating in the background; you placed & transformed them so well. The leaves & abstract forms on the left are like optic nerves growing in a garden—just intuitively right, why shouldn't organs & tissues grow like plant life? And you've framed the big eye beautifully, and even the little one in a coil (of which you have another version on the left: whatever that coil is, it belongs in this image & reminds me of cochlea). A brilliant montage, and yeah, brave because you're showing a damaged part of your body; but you transformed it into terrific art. A brilliant image. Hope you do more like it...

This is quite a stunning image and it's incredibly well put together! How hadn't I seen this before? But as I look at the date of its posting, I was somewhere in the south of the Czech Republic and not always in the presence of a WiFi signal, so it stands to reason. I must say for the artistry alone, I love this image. It does have a rather astronomical look to it and it's rather odd how retinal damage looks a bit like sunspot activity--albeit on a sun with the sorts of canals you'd see on a mythical version of Mars. This whole image is superb and it puts a lot into perspective without rendering it mundane or easily dismissed. That you've turned eye damage into a work of art is purely inspirational and it just shows your resilience. This is superb work!
