Description

Capture 8/25/09, in a parking lot about 4.2 miles/6.765 kilometers from my laconic lair. I'm dedicating this to durleybeachbum because she was probably the first one to introduce this concept, opening a whole new genre, to the photo galleries of Renderosity. I slightly changed the POV between the two fotos in order to create different lighting and textural effects. I believe these shots are off a new Ford hybrid, the particular model I didn't record, because this is one instance where I don't hang around very long. Due to the vast presence of security cameras and suspicious eyes peering out through windows, I just aim, snap, and walk away really fast. Ergo, my paranoia. I get tired of confrontations and trying to explain to leery auto owners, and/or to the public in general, why I do this kind of stuff. High sneak factor? Yeah, you could say that. Be that as it may, I've already compiled quite a photo folder of headlights and taillights during my clandestine operations. Ta-ta, and tallyho.

Hmm, looks like a tail light, to me... ^_^ But your right... some tail lights I've seen must have taken some car designer a couple of months and a case of Red Bull to come up with. Nice idea and picture.

It would be interesting to sit in on one of their design sessions to understand why they do the things they do, such as the honeycomb pattern in this one; I'm sure that there are specific terms and reasons, and probably a whole fleet of people who design nothing but head- and taillights. I like them, though; they appeal to my geometric obsession. Nice shots of these fine examples, I'm sure Andrea will appreciate them.

Wonderful selective coloring. The red triangle looks good with the honeycomb pattern.

Ha! I thought of Andrea too a while back, as I sat in traffic near Beaumont, Tx. and looked at the same taillight for about 30 minutes. I took some pictures and may post one later. Interesting designs on this one.

Why, thankyou, Harry! I too should like to know the design criteria that influence the creation of these objects of my minor obsession!

LOL!! Harry - Our New James Bond!!! Awesome shot for Andrea and the rest of us! Maybe we should start a "guess your best" taillight section! Beautiful lights.

lol, at your "clandestine" operations...well, an old photography teacher once said, "you have to be a little crazy to do this art!" (I never did: One day I'll post my photography & they'll shut down the site.) You & Andrea have the right idea, because I never thought about tail lights until I came to your two galleries. I never realized how complex they are (great comment from Denise). You captured two slightly different povs, and the 2d one seems a little lighter, while the gray chrome around it seems lighter & smoother as well. In these captures, we really get to see them as strangers, objects from another world, and of course as art, pure & simple. And if you did postwork, it's very subtle and blends into the whole. (And btw, lol, I don't know if you've shot trains, but there are apparently all kinds of rules about them, and I know a few train mavens who've been stopped numerous times while photographing them. Photographers will do just about anything, including lying flat on the sidewalk! Lol, sound familiar?)
