More images from my nostalgia tour of the San Diego Naval Training Center.
Clockwise from upper left:
1.) The USS Recruit is a 2/3 scale reproduction of a Destroyer Escort. It contains several classrooms and authentic shipboard equipment. In my day it was used to familiarize recruits with conditions aboard ship and train them in seamanship skills such as line handling, knot tieing and watchstanding procedures.
2.) This courtyard has been upgraded and modernized a lot since last I saw it. The fountain in the foreground is new. The building on the right have been completely rebuild to incorporate modern conveniences like center air conditions, internet access and upgraded electrical wiring.
3.) The North Chapel was the scene of many marriages, particularly after a Boot Camp graduation. Some days there were ceremonies every hour.
4.) As a recruit I didn't have much need to report to the base headquarters building - but it is an excellent example of the architecture of the base.

I had to laugh at the USS Recruit. At Great Lakes NTC, we had a deck plan painted on a hot top parking lot. We had to step through imaginary bulkheads and dog them tight during GQ drills. Almost as good as fighting shipboard fires in imaginary compartments. And my favorite, if someone stepped over the line, man overboard drills. Those were the good old days. Dana

Each of the photos are excellent, well balanced, perfectly exposed images- and I like the way you have presented them here- the gradient backdrop with highlight toward the middle really works well, gives a nice 3D effect that makes the photos pop out.
