Description

Pool with a view. It is actually an unnamed little tarn near the cairn on the summit of the mountain of Haystacks in Cumbria. To the left of the image are the hillsides of the mountain "Pillar" as they slope down to the Ennerdale forest beyond which in the distance you can see the lake of Ennerdale Water. The high mountain in the centre is High Crag and the rocky outcrop just below it is Seat. Just out of view in the valley to the right are the lakes of Buttermere and Crummock Water. This is the spot where most people who have climbed Haystacks take a well earned rest and take in the magnificent views of Buttermere and if one turns in the opposite direction the views take in Great Gable, Green Gable,Kirk Fell and Pillar. A magnificent area with some of the most outstanding views in the Lake District this was the favourite of the legendary fell walker Alfred Wainwright.
