Description
Captured 8/8/09, around 11:30 AM, at the beautiful Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens in beautiful San Marino, California.
Better viewed full size.
I'm dedicating this to Denise because of her propensity for things geometric and repetitive.
To be precise, these shots were taken in the Virginia Steele Scott Galleries of American Art, a separate building located on the grounds of the Huntington.
Okay, these fotos are from my second visit to the Huntington, this time under very sunny skies. I originally posted this same dome on Renderosity from my first visit on 5/29/09, taken under undesirable overcast skies. Actually, a lousy day for a photo shoot, so I was determined to repeat the effort. Hence, the pics shown above came out much more clear and detailed.
It was also a bit of a challenge to decide which sequence I should present these shots on the collage. I could have even shown the bottom foto on top, but after due consideration set it up as if I had entered the vestibule from the south entrance and approached the dome above. Decisions, decisions.
The third pic shows the sun peeking through at the top right corner; the fourth photo shows the shadow of the dome on the floor, and the last shot depicts the elegant vestibule (I love that word) looking towards the south entrance where I originally entered. You can also see portions of the dome and its shadow in that one.
Ta-ta, and tallyho.

Really beautiful!

They're all lovely. If I had to choose one it would be #4 but then I do appreciate seeing the window that created that wondrous shadow.

What a fabulous collage. Simply elements but so attractive. Love the shadow shot a lot.

The light and shadows on the floor really do it for me. Excellent group of shots!

These are terrific! I think I like the 4th one best. If I am panning from the top, (as most people probably do) I like the order you have them in best. If I pan from the bottom, I would switch the 1st and 3rd. Then it would feel like I was walking into the room, first noticing the floor, and then as I walked forward, looking up and seeing more and more of the window, until, BAM! I was right under it! This is a great set of pictures!

They are fascinating, and the fourth one in particular would stand alone.

oh do I understand the tyranny of "which image do I put last, which do I put first," etc. And I can see how the last could be first too. But the way you have it is a complete journey. It's almost 2 journeys: The dome from an angle, then a broader, than full. Then the reflections. And the bottom shot gives us dome & reflection all in one (with some beautiful shade & other details). The dome looks like it has some kind of textured glass or maybe screening; and the 4th shot is beautiful, as it spreads out in all that greenish peaceful shadow. I like the last shot last, because we get to see the whole vestibule (yeah, it's a good word!), with statue, etc. Kind of gives us the final 'rooting' for the montage. A beautiful piece, and beautiful views. Another fine work from you Harry.
