Description

As we traveled the 1880's train it was easy to capture images due to the slow pace we were going. My son said this abandoned caboose was named "Oblivion", but I vaguely remember the tour guide indicate that the peak of this hill (elevation 4,960) was named Oblivion. And that hill is very close to where we found this caboose standing with trees growing very near to it. Thanks train lovers(!)as well as the rest of you for the wonderful comments and faves on my previous 1880's train upload. thumb_1941818.jpg Blessings to you all, Jodie

No "clang clang clang went the trolley" here! Superlative shot of the old derelict caboose, as it sits deteriorating away in the wilds of South Dakota, Jodie. Which reminds me: I have tons/tonnes of fotos of old trains, taken back in 2006 or 07, just sitting and forgotten in my hard drive, that I definitely have to dig out and post on Renderosity. Thanks for the wakeup call.

Great Shot Jodie!! [^^] Would be nice if whoever was in charge of that caboose would restore it and paint it red as those were red back in their day, Never the less you have preserved it in your photography ! Very COOL !! [^__^] Cheers, Roger

it's neat to see how some people want the car restored, others like it how it is. I'm in the latter, I love the look of decay when it blends with nature—and old wooden train-cars do that better than most. But that's only part of the picture. Again, it's your 'bloom', the sense of exquisite light that undulates through the shot from bright to peaceful shadows, and how it blankets the shot in a very quiet glow. How you find that so often is uncanny to me, but you have an unerring eye for it, another photographer with the same camera may rarely find this kind of light, it's in you, it's in your eye & you find it wherever you go. And the trees feel almost painted in spots, they're so soft. Also, the highlights on the caboose's roof are splendid. This is a beautiful old car decaying in lush surroundings, which is about so much more than that: It's about exquisite light & shade and highlights that, though quiet, are almost triumphal. Another beauty from you. Love it.

Shunted into a corner to await eternity. What a wonderful old caboose who served so many hard working souls during the bleeding years of the States. Great mood.
