Description

Captured 8/29/09, in the early morning, about 1.25 miles/2.01 kilometers from my hectic haven. Extremely much, much better viewed full size. These guys collect en masse each day outside an Indian temple, patiently awaiting a sari-clad lady to emerge and feed them their daily bread. In taking these shots, I take special pains never to stand or walk directly below the birds, otherwise I risk becoming the unfortunate target of excrement. I'm a real pigeon for pigeon photos, so there are more to come. Ta-ta, and tallyho.

I've often seen long lines of birds on the lines like this, and wished I could get a shot or three. The repetition of bird shapes is mesmerizing; I'm always intrigued with the occasional "wrong way" facer, though. Wonder how they decide who gets the job of watching the other side? Or is it just the loners who insist on choosing the other direction? Fascinating subjects!

Amazing that they've become so dependent on her for food. They all seem to have a sense of space as if they were in rows for marching band. They are at parade rest, though, as the rows are not quite perfect. lol. I like the composition of the very top one.

If they gather every morning is the walkway beneath them slick? Great shot.

Excellent shots! It looks like some of them are in excrement bombardment position in the first shot. I love the oddball in the first one amongs so much sameness. Great capture of the new arrival in the third one. I think I like the second best, with its great dof, the patterns of the lines and the sheer mass of birds. (I get a kick out of your namings of your place of abode.)

a great fun bunch. If your other pigeon shots are like these, post away! I too noticed (with Denise) the odd pigeon-out: The ones who stand the other way. Are their cohorts whispering, "always gotta make waves, never can just go along with the pack..." But besides the great fun of the top shot, you did, with these, what you've done with some of your sidewalk & fence & other shots, you made an abstract of directions & angles, etc. Tons of fun. And I know all about standing under birds: Years back a girlfriend & I went out and recorded bird songs, and you have to get the mike right near them; and trust me, we got the Full Monty of bird droppings. Don't know if they do that with everyone, or just sound-people...Anyway, a lot of fun, and a nice clean blue sky as a backdrop. Love it.
