Hi, I'm Marilyn.  I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile.  It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here.  I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends.  Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time.  Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!!  Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet.  You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long.  Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Palm trees??? What do they do with them in the winter...wheel them into a hot house:-))) Thanks for this Marilyn. I knew there were sandy beaches but didn't get to the beach myself in June. The ice age really left some great holes in the ground for the Great Lakes!

I didn't get to see the palm tress, but got to hear from Chipka as to why they are there in the northern most part of Illinois. I though it a bit odd too Bill, and really wish you had been able to be a part of this incredible gathering. It was a bittersweet weekend for me, saying good bye to old friends Friday night, and meeting new ones on Saturday. Chicago is an amazing city,...and sooooo many people. It's been over ten years since I'd been down there, actually within the city and not just passing by. It was great to finally meet you in person M'lady, I am so glad we made the trip down!

I don't get it. What was up with those palm trees. Hello this is the Midwest! Maybe they are trying to make it look like Florida so they can confuse old man winter and he'll go somewhere else LOL. Lake Michigan is huge and the view from a plane is like wow. Great shot and Bill we missed you. It was so awesome to hang out with you guys. I had a blast. It was awesome meeting you in person. We have to do this again sometime somewhere.

Wonder what this would look like in mid-January...

I'm glad everyone's upset about the palm trees (!) because they offended the hell out of me! I was on that beach a few months ago & didn't see any palm trees! And yes, there are no tides (lol), though I thought it was great that Andrea was surprised to see sand! Well if you think it's a small lake, you could be surprised, I'm sure. This was the afternoon that we walked the beach & I think you went barefoot, and we saw some guy walk on a tightrope (remember?) You knew what he was doing, I didn't. And we went from here to the Gold Coast (with all the gardens & planter boxes & all those 19th C. stone houses...) And you looked for a bike rental place. If you didn't hear it, Corey has taken the bike-ride along the Lake all the way down the city, from way north to considerably south. To give you an idea: This was at 1200 north, and he rode from c. 6000 north to 6000 south. That's '12,000' whatevers! Does that translate? Our walk from the hotel to here was just 400 numbers: That'll give you an idea of the length of the path, and that's just half the span of the city. (Look at my palm, you'll get a better idea...) Glad you posted this.

Looks like one of our Florida beaches to me. I've been to Chicago and was also surprised to see the sand. Dana
