Description

This was our welcome home committee. A 2 inch (5cm) House Gecko, part of the family Gekkonidae. They hatch from little white eggs about the size of a small green pea. This guy was hiding in the recess of the door frame. In this case, hiding from predators during the day, so he can be near the outside light during the night. The light draws small insects that become gecko food. I have seen this species grow up to about four or five inches. If you spot them at night, their bodies can be transparent and you can see most of the gecko’s internal organs working away. The stucco is painted beige so the transparent part may be a camouflage thing. Five days worth of comments is a tough thing to try to catch up with but my plan is to do that over the next few days. Thanks for dropping by my gallery and all those comments and favs left while I was traveling back to Florida. Dana

Amazing capture! I know how fast these guys can be. We get them a lot. It is fascinating the way you can see their insides. I've chased them around trying to get them outside before my cats get them inside of their stomachs. Wonderful shot!

What a neat little thing, wish we had them around here! I suppose the climate would be too cold, that or they'd become cat food. Cool shot all the same!!
