Description

Verlenna was filled with joy. Even though the people of her village suffered she remained in good cheer. She was also the cause of the suffering in the village. This was indeed a cursed land and had been so since the day Verlenna had found the Book. At first she had read slowly, not knowing what it was she had found in the hidden nook that had been so carefully concealed behind the book shelf. She had accidentally tripped the latch built into the wood carving inset along the top edge. To her surprise the whole top shelf rotated outward revealing the opening that had held this one large, ornate book. As she started to grasp what it was she had in her hands she had read faster and as she read had spoken certain passages aloud. It was only the next day that she learned that one by one the villagers were coming upon misfortune and maladies that at first seemed unrelated to what she had read but soon it dawned on her how closely some of the problems were similar to the words she had spoken aloud the previous day. She had always disliked the villagers she lived amongst as they had been aloof and had looked down their noses at her. She took it as jealousy from the women and over compensation for some hidden lust on the part of the men folk.. Whatever it was she now had the means to even the score and in this she took great pleasure. Yes, now after a measure of time she had read more and to her delight found that there were, indeed, spells that conjured up even more powerful depravation against her poor misfortunate neighbors.. all to her most gleeful delight.

Can you see the "man in the moon"-like skull head through the window? Yes bakapo, she does look smug. That is exactly what I was going for and it makes me happy that it seems to be what others see here.. This is why I love comments so much. I can then see if I got across whatever it was I was thinking of when I did it.. Thank you much... We would all like that book but I am not sure we would all use it for the same things as Verlenna did.. Doing good with the book might be a more worthy usage..Thanks Jocko. As always your opinion is most welcome. Coming from a man who works with live images of people doing all sorts of things I am most flattered that you find this work worthy...

wicked wicked woman. If it truly is a book of curses, she'll be surprised what the last page holds, and certainly not pleasantly so. Yes i noticed the essence of the curses she spoke from the tome over the village, manifested in the sky. Very good work my friend!

Very good illustration. She should be careful. Every curse has an echo as does every thought and deed.
