Description

Captured 8/15/09, around 12 noon, at the beautiful Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens in beautiful San Marino, California. Light years better viewed full size. I hope you got the subtle connection in the title. Not exactly the Great Wall of China, but it'll do in a pinch. Probably built by imported unindentured slaves over hundreds of generations. The wall runs a good distance along the perimeter of the Desert Garden, and you can spot cacti and succulents behind the top of the wall in the bottom three shots. The tilt you see in #4 happened when I squatted down to snap the shot, but my anguished arthritic knees would have none of it, so I had to aim and click posthaste, which resulted in the skewed image. Next time I'll have to bring along my camera with the rotating LCD monitor for pain-free below-the-belt fotos. Thankx for clicking on, and tallyho.

Sweet shot! Sorry about the knee issue, but the view in #4 is apt! Can you imagine how long it took to do this? It looks like each stone was placed one at a time by hand! Holy crap!!!!

Nice one Harry. Ty for your knee actually I like the gentle tilt on a capture. Great to see the plants on top of the wall/in the garden bed.

That darned arthritis .. I'm sorry you have that too. Mine is in my shoulders a bit. But these shots turned out nice Harry. I love that rock wall!!! I have 2 rock walls in my back yard; it so desperately needs a gardener to plant cool things on top and below them .. but who has the time when all one does is work and raise a family and take care of a home .. and runs around at zoo's. :P

Great title! But you're no where near his stomping ground. Wonderful images! Love number 4! I like the way it snakes around. Glad you captured it the way you did! Sorry for the reason!

I like the pattern of repeating stones, but to me it's just not quite as nice as drystone walls; although to be sure, with the earthquakes in California drystone probably wouldn't survive too long! Still, it makes for a lovely design, and nice captures!

Cool shots. July 21st, 1861..."Look at Jackson standing there like a stonewall." Battle of Bull Run (1st Manasas). My great grand pappy was there...well almost, he was not there until the 2nd battle but it is fun for me to think of him being there.

oh just reading your comments makes me hold my knees...lol..hope you recovered from this arthritic last shot and hmm, maybe there is a chance to borrow those unindentured slaves (just one generation) for a similar stone wall in our garden... of course with all the plants on top... but alas i fear they might not like the winter over here (neither the slaves nor the plants).. However, some fine shots you got, Harry!
