Description
Captured 8/15/09, around 1 PM, at the beautiful Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens in beautiful San Marino, California.
To be more exact, these were taken in the beautiful Bonsai Court section, located in the beautiful Japanese Garden area. Lots of keen stuff there, including the irrepressible koi.
Light years better viewed full size.
Top shot shows just one portion of the Bonsai Court.
Pics 2 & 3 are of the same tree; 4 & 5 are of the same tree.
Because of my experience during WWII, I'm tempted to call these ornamental plants, "Banzai" trees, instead of Bonsai. Hence, it takes all of my will power to resist that temptation.
Also, I'm hopping around the Huntington each day with my postings in order to provide an initial general overview of the vast area with its many features and exhibitions. I'll get back to displaying the same subject matter in sequence sometime down the line.
Thankx for dropping in, and tallyho.

Sweet!!! I certainly hope you will be posting a lot more of these, I've loved Bonsai trees for as long as I can remember...which of late isn't as long as I would like. I've even tried to grow a few of my own, but have failed miserably, even owning books as to how! Some of these are even older than I am, which is really saying something, but they are soooo beautiful! Thanks for the share of these amazing specimens!

Most fascinating garden art, how interesting to see a tree wave. The close up of the tree is excelent with a jagged surface.

I wish I had the patience to keep one of these growing and going. I am fascinated by them. Beautiful clear and crisp shots.

Amazing trees...I've always felt a little sorry for Bonsai trees. I think they should be able to reach their natural heights and widths. Still a fascinating hobby, and really nice collection of photos. You go to such wonderful places with your camera.

They always have such interesting designs...partly because of the various ways they are pruned...all very detailed images...

The number 2/3 shot is the wildest looking bonsai I have ever seen! Great work!

Great shots! I love that you went in close on the last one. That is a very interesting trunk. There is some really wild wood grain behind it too!

Nice collection of shots of these little trees; I especially like that strangely-shaped one in the second and third shots!

I like bonsai trees, Our cats go after them though and they don't last long. We had a tree in a room the cats can't get into, but there wasn't enough light and it just died. Great shots.
