Description

Along a stretch of Lake Michigan in Chicago, some brilliant mind decided palm trees would add to the ambiance. There's a rather skinny line of them, which will probably all die this winter. Is someone ever so slightly unclear on the concept of tropicall trees and snow? Oh well, makes for an interesting foto op!!

You had to be on the lake side of the palms for this POV. Hope you didn't get wet. Love the tilting building. Great capture. Dana

Reading Carin's comment reminded me of exactly what Chip's pov WAS on this subject, as well as Mark's! :P As I recall, they were less than pleased. LOL! Great image!

If they were potted, the parks department could wheel them inside for six months of the year. That used to be done with orange trees in Europe years ago. Right now they look silly as hell:)

They take them out for the winter. The dingal berries in Kenosha de the same thing. I have no idea why, but I think it's a huge waist of tax payer money. Great shot, I love the angle. too cool.

Oooh, I remember seeing these poor things! There are two more outside of Water Tower...and all I can say about it is, I have absolutely no clue as to why anyone would want to plant palm trees in an environment like this, but it's the same mentality that would probably cut down the Amazon Rain forest and replace it with a shopping mall painted green for sentimental reasons!!!! It's strange that this has become a city of potholes and palm trees...rather than fix the city's crumbling infrastructure, they bring in tropical plants to make the crumbles look pretty! They DO look nice, the Palm's I mean, but they're so anachronistic and they make parts of this city look like a mis-designed set for a particularly stupid movie. What's next, Piranhas in Lake Michigan to draw in the tourists? Oh crap, I shouldn't have said that...some city planner might read this and actually think its a good idea!!! On the other hand, this is a great photograph. I do have to admit that the skyscraper and the palm fronds are a wonderful contrast. And yeah, it's getting too cold for them, so they're being plucked up and probably put into cold storage, as only Chicago logic would dictate.
