Description
this image gave me a lot of problems to solve :-)
when the card was ready for postage, it is a very old card, found somewhere in the heaps of stuff lying around here, who uses snailmail nowadays? i had to find a suitable way to post it which was not easy because of all the privatisation which should be beneficial to us (i did not experience any advantage, i just have to pay more, much more for less service) and i went out to find the right postal service for the right price.
i thought about terry pratchett's discworld post office in ankh morpork, but as this is run by a professional criminal and conman, moist von lipwig, i decided not to risk that. another reason is that ankh morpork is not a very safe place to go.
trying to get to hogwarts to get hold of a postage owl proved impossible because when trying to walk to platform 9 3/4 i ended up with bruises and a big bump on the head. trying once was enough to make me rethink.
then i found in a small alley a shop on which was written: "witchcraft postal service" - it did not look very inviting, but what choice did i have? inside was a somewhat older lady (to be kind) with a rather big nose and some warts and blemishes, but she smiled in a very friendly way, showing both her yellowish teeth and asked if she could be of service. i told her i wanted to send a postcard. she seemed very happy and told me i was the first one in the last year who wanted to do that. i had to pay a reasonable amount for the priority stamp and i asked her when the card would be delivered. she hesitated but then told me she honestly did not know, but, if i paid a little more she could place a special cancellation stamp on it. in that stamp was a witch who would travel with the postcard till it's destination and make sure it would be even faster than email!
as i felt i had no choice, because the card should arrive before october 31 i paid the extra, hoping it would work.
if this card is in my gallery before the 31st it did.

Maybe now that Moist is off Making Money, one of his underlings would have been less threatening. But the witch you found seems to provide good service. I got my card late, but can't blame the service for that. Great card and wonderful delivery system.

another example of your care & detail, sure to include even the smallest touches. Love your story, the lady in the alley shop, etc. I assume you know that the 'old witch' stereotype was based on Mediterranean and Eastern types that were considered foreign to the whiter more northern-European types (which is where we got a lot of the famous fairy & folktales of Europe: They assigned "foreign" features to people they thought foreign, evil, etc). Love that you encountered one to get your postal service! As for the card, if many of us had aged a card, we'd have yellowed or browned it a bit; but you used many lines, streaks, variances in hue, etc. Even the ghost lines next to the divider line is a nice touch! Your stamp & postmark are done expertly, as always, and they overlap in just the right "random" way. I even like the breakup of the lines in the postmark circle, showing decay of handling, etc. And you used 2 typefaces on the stamp (most would use one), and even got shadow around the perforations. Yet it all holds together as a playful postcard--none of the detail takes it over, it's all blended. (I like the typeface for "postcard" too: classy, modern, but not intrusive.) Fine work, and lots of fun. Great story too!
