Description

These crocs didn't even know I was there. I hid in the weeds and snapped a few pictures of them. This was taken at Busch Gardens this past March. Here are some Nile Crocodile facts from National Geographic: Africa's largest crocodilian, these primordial brutes reach a maximum size of about 20 feet (6 meters) and can weigh up to 1,650 pounds (730 kilograms). Average sizes, though, are more in the range of 16 feet (5 meters) and 500 pounds (225 kilograms). They live throughout sub-Saharan Africa, the Nile Basin, and Madagascar in rivers, freshwater marshes, and mangrove swamps. The diet of the Nile crocodile is mainly fish, but it will attack almost anything unfortunate enough to cross its path, including zebras, small hippos, porcupines, birds, and other crocodiles. It will also scavenge carrion, and can eat up to half its body weight at a feeding. This evening I am taking a break from things and just kicking back. Ryan went to homing coming and I think Dave and I are going to watch a movie. I have the popcorn all ready. Have fun tonight, I will see you all tomorrow. Much peace and love, Cheri P.S. Feel free to have fun with this one and it was the only animal in the park Dave didn't want to get close to, LOL.

Very cool shot. I like how you included some grass leaves in the forground to add depth and a sense of adventure - I can almost picture you sneaking up on these guys.

???? Oh come on, look how gorgeous and captivating the gal in front is, such a languid pose, just asking,....no almost begging for a kiss. Of course knowing that she had eaten recently also helps.....I would've gone for it, but their breath could knock a buzzard from a limb at fifty paces! This is a great shot baby, and the zoom is awesome!

Great bit of hiding in the bushes with camera! Dave is a smart guy, particularly if he has not master the ninja art of hiding so well as you have.

Wow... the long palm fronds in the front truly make it look as though you sneaked up, too! Although, that one in the back right area does have his mouth open! Is he yawning or snoring?? lol.

I can't believe David didn't want a crocodile kiss. :P When I want to really get a good idea of the size of an animal, I always imagine it in my house. My living room is 17x12. A 16 foot croc would barely fit! Perspective is everything.

I like the body language of the third croc near the water. The one with his mouth open is probably telling his buddy, "Look Harry, if she doesn't want to tell me what's wrong then she can just sleep over there." Or maybe, "Easy, keep still. She's taking our picture now, wait for her to get closer." Great shot, excellent composition.
