Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Most impressive structure Marilyn!!! What a shame indeed that you cannot just walk inside without paying! Grrr...

I lived for 23 years in the So Cal area and never once made it to Catalina...what a shame! Looks like a lovely spot, and a great capture!

Excellent. I've heard of this famous place for years but have never seen it before. Thanks for posting...I am a little more tuned in for it:)

Cool photo and story. My 'Avalon' was an album of the same name by 'Roxy Music' released in the early 1980's!

It's a gorgeous building. How could they trash a treature....wait never mind they did it to our Eagles Club and Ballroom. They turned it into East High school.

A casino that charges to get in???? Shame you couldn't get inside for a few quick shots. It looks enormous. Great colors and capyure. Dana

Yup. I'm a native of So Cal,lived in the LA,Long Beach area. My first trip to Catalina was on the ship. My second was on the four engined Sikorski and later visits were in the Gooses. Stayed at the old Atwater ca. 1966-1969. On one trip I had the privilege of flying the right hand seat of a Goose, sans controls, as the pilot did a fly-by of the Queen Mary that had just arrived.

Gorgeous. Zoom is a must. I love how evocative this is. Your sense of color is right on the money, as usual, and the whole structure looks magical...timeless in a sense. Too bad it's a casino that you have to pay to get into. I can't quite wrap my brain around that whole pay to have your money taken away sort of thing, but I suppose that's why I'm not a gambler. I just saw your wonderful Chicago night shot, and I love the contrast of night and day when I zoom in on this one, go back and zoom in on that one. They're like a kind of trans-continental yin and yang. Perfect work!

If I pay to get in, will they let me take all the pictures I want for free? If so ... I'm paying to get in! LOL!

Wow what an amazing building. Casinos really are a blight on the landscape IMHO. A few years ago so many classic pubs around here become poker machine sheds, but then people didn't go so most of them were turned back into old fashioned pubs again!
