Description

Captured in the Kruger National Park in South Africa! This is a young Waterbuck bull. In Afrikaans we call it 'Kringgat', which directly translated means Circled-Arse. The reason of course is the target painted on this fellow's backside! Here is some info from the Kruger website: This is a large, robust antelope. Bulls have a shoulder height of 1.4 metres and can weigh up to 260 Kg.. Cows are smaller than bulls. Waterbucks have a brownish–grey shaggy coat. The eyes and nose are patched with white, and there is a white collar under the throat. The rump has a characteristic white ring. The large rounded ears are a prominent feature. Only the bulls have long, forward curved horns. Both sexes emit a, not unpleasant, musky smell which normally lingers at resting sites. Thank you for popping in and for your very valued comments and favs on my "Klipspringer" upload of yesterday! Stay well! Hugs, Carin xx

Makes me think of that old Far Side cartoon with the two deer in the forest, one with a bullseye on his chest: "Bummer of a birthmark, Hal!" What a beautiful animal this is!

Bulls Eye! Er, no bull's arse:) Great shot. Your animal photos always depict the most obliging, at ease subjects...just lesiurely waiting for you to finish with them before they go springing to the next rock or trotting down the next trail. This guy is a perfect example. Wonderful.

LOL Andrea... I do pay well!!! I sometimes think wildlife photography is worse than photographing children. You need loads of patience to get that "perfect" pose! :)

Fantastic photo, Carin! You must work some kind of magic to get them to pose like this for you!

What a regal creature! I love his horns, they remind me of an extravagant, ancient Egyptian headdress. It is quite amazing that you get such creatures to stand still...if even for little more than a second. Wonderful work, full of warmth and elegance. I like this a lot!

This is a wonderful pose. The view of the horns really shows the angle of the arcs. I like how you get the complementary patterns of white on the face that pair with the "target" on the rump. The long, shaggy hair on the neck is fabulous. this is wonderful and I don't know how you can get this close and not spook it.

Majestic looking beast and love the horns. Awesome capture. I'm going to have to sign up for an African safari before I'm to old to make the trip. Dana

The seductive aroma of pheromones, no doubt. Another terrific shot that you can add to your already exquisite folder of wild animals, Carin! And the information is extremely informative (redundant grammar, I know). I like the magnificent horns and the part about the Circled-Arse.
