Description

ZOOM for details, details, details...:) City is Chicago. River on the right is the Chicago River which empties into Lake Michigan just a dozen blocks off to the east (right). [added: actually, thanks to some well engineered locks, the lake now flows into the river...see auntietk's comment below.] Turquoise colored roof is on the "L" (Elevated Train Station) on West Lake Street. White roofed structure is above the tracks of Chicago's main railroad station. Photo is taken from my perch on the 99th floor of what was for years the Sears Tower (now the Willis Tower). Bill:)

Super cool view....makes us humans look pretty darn puny :-) I am guessing the "El" there is the one in your previous pic the other day?? Maybe?

It's like a toy! Superb pic, Bill, but I've said before how I should HATE to live anywhere like that.

Since you know so much about so many things, and I am forever asking you questions, it gives me great pleasure to be able to tell you something I've recently learned: Lake Michigan actually flows into the Chicago River, not the other way around! I know it defies all logic, but look here for more information. I love this image! It's a view I never saw of Chicago, having never gone higher than the 12th floor anywhere, and that was our hotel room! Fascinating shot.

auntietk is 100% right...the Chicago River doesn't flow into Lake Michigan. Some smart engineers reversed the flow in 1900 to keep Lake Michigan clean.

If it did Lake Michigan would turn green every St Patrick's Day. They turn the Chicago River green every year. This is a great shot! I love the angle.

The Three Rs, just like in grade school. Stellar foto taken of just one portion of that toddlin' town, Bill. The sharp clarity in this excellent shot makes the image look like the closeup of a circuit board, with all the electronic components cleanly and neatly in place.

Lovely shot Bill When I zoom in it is way bigger and much easier to see. Love the rail network in this Bill fantastic.. I see the elevated rail runs at right angles to the Main system. is it a mono rail? Sydney has a mono rail that runs round the CBD of Sydney.. Where does the elevated rail run to? Love the view you got in this shot Bill the 99th floor could get to the 108 floor then lol. Nice post Bill..

Oooh, I know this city! I know this view, just not from this perspective. This is wonderful...I can see where Corey and I were walking around after Chinese food and it's a nicely surreal feeling. Seeing what I'm familiar with through someone else's eyes is wonderful and I love the crisp clarity of this image. There are some wonderful colors in this city and you've captured them in their subtle glory.
