Description

Hi everybody! Again a pic of Glasgow, the fine Glasgow West.... This pic here shows the Kibble Palace, the highlight of the Glasgow botanical garden. Not the best pic, not the best POV, but beautiful old architecture. It was 10.00 P.M. in the evening, when I took this pic. Unfortunaly the palace was closed... Kibble Palace was built and constructed by John Kibble for his private home at Coulport, Loch Long in the 1860ies. Later the components were cast by Walter MacFarlane and were brought by barge over the Clyde river to Glasgow, were they were fully erect by Boyd of Paisley in 1873 at the recent place. It was first used as room for exhibitions and concerts and became a greenhouse for temperated plants in the 1880ies. The main plant group is a group of Australian ferm trees; some of them lived here for 120 years till today. In 2004 the whole building was totally restored, that means is was completely dismantled and rebuilt. It was re-opened in 2006. Hope you enjoy this pic. Thanks for your interest and thanks for your comments for my older pics. billcody

Indeed, this is gorgeous architecture, and I'm really fond of this view as a matter of fact! The vastness of this place; gives it a great deal of depth and a beautiful feeling of abundance and "space". Lovely trees, especially the one right in the forefront--a wonderful shape! Thank you so much for sharing this with us!

Another great picture wolfgang, it makes you wonder how the glasshouses have lasted so long when moden day structures seem to last such a short time.
