Description

It was time. I'd been planning a bathroom remodel for a while. My brother Trent has remodeled something like 12 or 13 houses, and his buddy, Ken, is a general contractor. They both have loads of experience, and they agreed to do my bathroom for me. Hooray! So we went shopping (which I hate), but they let me take my camera. :D So if you remember all the shots I posted last Spring from various home improvement stores, that was why I was there to begin with. This is what the bathroom looked like before they started tearing into it. Notice the top left-hand corner ... the dryer vent ran through a little drop-down casing and out through the wall. I always hated that thing, and it was one of the things I wanted changed. And notice the window. It was square. In order to have a full sized medicine cabinet/mirror, the previous owners had walled off half the window. Imagine what fun I had getting someone to build me a window that would accomodate that, five years ago, when I had all the windows replaced! I'd had a flood several years ago, which delaminated the linoleum. Those aren't shadows on the floor, the lino was really that color in places. It was because it was coming apart from the backing. There had been some plumbing problems ... hence the open wall and the pipe sticking down through the ceiling. And there's no heat source in that room, so the big brown box in the corner next to the toilet is a dehumidifier. I hated that tub surround!! Oh ... and did I mention the ants? Somewhere in that bathroom there was an ant problem, but I could never figure out where it was. I'd been able to keep it under control via a local pest conrol company, but it was worrisome. I thought maybe there might be dry rot in the ceiling, which would be BAD! Right above my bathroom is another bathroom ... I own a duplex. The ONLY thing I liked about the way that bathroom looked was the black and white thing it had going. ZOOM for details

Bathroom remodeling...how fun! Well...fun to watch. I love the before, during, and after shots of this. You've transformed your bathroom from a functional space, to something that possesses grace, beauty, and elegance. Nice to see the tub situation fixed...ants coming in from ill-anchored/fitting fixtures is always a problem, despite the fact that I like ants; I'm always afraid somebody else is going to step on them, or brush away the sugar bait I'd leave for them, just to keep them from wandering too far in search of nibbly things to take back to the colony. (Yeah, the house I grew up in had carpenter ants, and I always "spilled" sugar near the back door (on the patio) to keep them from having to search too far into the house. I didn't care if something stepped on people (at least some people) but even now, I avoid stepping on ants, or trapping them, and if they're in m living space, I just seal everything up (to avoid eating ants...as I refuse to eat anything that I'd consider a rather charming, if non-talkative companion.) Funny how a bathroom remodel inspires a rant on ants, but that's my mind for you. I love the way this tryptich of photo collages inspired ant-thoughts! I'm also annoyed that ants are so uncooperative when it comes time to photograph them...and what any of this has with bathrooms, I don't know, but there you have it.

Super collage...it really tells the story without words. (but the words do help a lot...mutually supporting). You had to check the ceiling or upstairs might have come downstairs and that would have been a big surprise to Lance:)

Whoa, what a big difference the before and after pictures are. It was time for a remodel. Dave and I will be starting those projects next year. Most of the walls are going and most of the windows too. Great collage and that's for sharing all of them.
