Description

Hi, thanks for stopping in. This is another one where you might want to click through to full size. Inspired in part by the excellent views at Lechworth State Park in New York, "Terraces" is a Vue8i render. The terrain is an infinite procedural terrain which uses the new Confined Strata function - so the mountain areas above the terraces and the rugged areas below are generated by the terrain fractal and the stratification is confined to the middle area. Lighting is spectral atmosphere with global radiosity. I positioned the sun very carefully to outline the rim of the rock ridge on the lower right and to rim light some of the canyon features on the other side of the water. Materials include some rock mats from Chipp Walter's 'TerraPak' set and default Vue materials with additional tweaking. There are about five material layers here, all distributed based on height and slope. The trees are a dynamic ecosystem population. Atmosphere, terrain and strata settings were constructed with information learned from the Quadspinner tutorials available from Cornucopia3D and the E-On Software website. Quality settings for the lighting and atmosphere were at +4 for the final render and the 'final' preset was used in render settings. Render time at 1920x720 was 26 hours 30 mins. Postwork included some levels adjustments, hue and saturation adjustments and compositing in Photoshop for the titles and borders. As always thanks for the comments and encoragement.

This is awesome - the new Vue terrains really have a high degree of realism and I love the aerial perspective in this - very realistic and impressive scene altogether!
