Description

Long ago, in the land of Oshkosh, lived two elves. The elves grew magic milkweed. The blossoms from these magic milkweed brought forth pods. Each pod had unborn fairies. When the the pods broke open the new fairies where born. There fluffy puffs that helped them take flight then dried. Once they dried there puffs carried them to their new homes, some far, far away. Once in their new homes the local fairies who where awaiting their arrival threw a great celebration. At this celebration they were given two things, a name and their new wings. Our milkweed pods finally broke open today. Calling them fairies came from the same place calling the dandelion seed puffs came from, my grandmother, when I was small. If you caught one you could make a wish, but it would only come true if you released the fairy so they could get to their new home. I have been so busy will everything happening lately. Sorry for my absence. Tomorrow I am running the galleries. I have 4 days at least to go back. I love you all, have a great night. Peace and love to you all. Cheri

Sensational macro of the fairy feathers and what look like little yellow raisins attached, Cheri! I bet that stuff tickles and would make one sneeze if it was whiffed in front of one's nose. And yes, you and your Renderosity offerings have been missed.

Love the story and the image to accompany it! How perfect! :) Milkweed seems most fitting! Such a splendidly textured subject! How much I'd love to have a bed made from this and just lay in it, relaxing for days on end! Superb lighting as well!

The elves became a bit concerned about their fairy friends this year. It seems that Old man winter and his ally Jack frost were scheming the demise of their fairy nemesis. We weren't sure if the pods were ever going to open this year, and release the little ones. The weather for the time being is unseasonably mild, and with the suns warmth, and the wind we had yesterday, finally the pods opened and released their magic. We assisted a bit, by pulling the seed laden stems out so the downy follicles could be dried a bit more quickly and let the wind pull them up into the air. This would most likely be the last weekend possible for them to find a make a new home before Old man winter lays his claim over the land until the following spring. I know that Cheri usually does this, and I find it hard to resist,..besides, she left the opportunity open! Milkweed is the sole source of food for the Monarch butterfly caterpillar. The mature plant is poisonous to mammals but the young shoots and leaves are edible. The native Indians and early settlers used the nectar from the blossoms as a source of sweetener. tofi is on to something, and the downy filaments ARE used as a hypo allergenic fill for pillows. The stalk fibers are strong like hemp, but soft like flax. There are also medicinal properties of the plant, including using the sap for wart removal and as a sunscreen. This is a sweet shot baby, and it's nice to know that our butterflies will be back next year!
