Description
When there's dogs, you gotta let them out at night before everyone goes to bed. They need that last chance to go potty too, you know. But when it's late at night, there are things out there in backyards, scurrying around, looking for midnight snacks.
Tuesday night, close to midnight, hubby let the dogs out, and he commented that it seemed strange that they wanted back in the house so fast. And then he went and opened the door to let them in. EWWWWWWWW! SKUNK! The whole house filled with the smell of SKUNK as Murphy and the Big Dog came charging in the door!
The whole house STILL smells of skunk, and so does poor little Murphy.
This is poor little Murphy after his bath, he lookes so pathetic I had to snap a picture. Lucky B-dog didn't get hit this time, Murphy got it all. My poor stinky dog. Sadly, nothing takes the smell off. Thankfully it's not so strong now. But Ewwwww .. the house. I hope that smell goes away by Thanksgiving!
I thank you all for the wonderful comments on the previous post, "I smell cake" and faves on it too. I'm so glad you all helped me to wish Jane a Happy Birtday!

By the way, I did try all the stuff like tomato juice, the baking soda/peroxide/soap combination, and even a couple of commercial skunk deodorizing doggy shampoos. My poor boy still smells.

Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent photo of a rather sad looking dog. Then again I'd look that way, or worse, if I got sprayed with the essence of skunk!

Oh, gawd, I'm so sorry. We haven't had that disaster yet. They do have a way of finding trouble. I was so amazed when I checked my mail...you've been over for quite the visit!

Poor little guy :( For the smell though, I have had good luck with tar based shampoos. I used to have a cat that seemed to think skunks were friends...

Awwww, I am so sorry that little Murphy got sprayed but think this pic of him after being bathed is adorable Rita. I'm sure he can expect a lot of baths and being perfumed for a bit. Reminds me of the pic I did for you :)

OH NOOOO I can remember sitting on the porch of a cabin, and having a snack drinking some coffee and I saw something moving and it was a skunk I watched it move up the stairs and I panicked and thought oh my what does one do in this situation so I just stayed very still and tried not to scream or cry or laugh but luckily he left but wow I will never forget that moment. Hope ya all recover.. bake lots of pumpkin pies maybe that will cover the smell some ..

Beautiful shot and presentation :)

lol Oh poor Murphy, poor you! lol Been there, done that. The pesky little skunks spray has sulfur and an oil in it, that's why it's so hard to get rid of. I have found Nature's Miracle Skunk Odor Remover and Earth Friendly Skunk Odor Remover work and have it on hand just in case. I am sure you can find online and order it and have on hand for next time.lol Such a fantastic phot. Poor Murph.

I don't know exactly where you are but we have a product called Fabreeze that you spray to freshen linens and couches and carpets and drapes and such. Anyway, I have had to remove skunk smell (professionally) and I highly recommend sponging it on the dog and letting it dry on the dog. I know it will remove 95% of the smell and in some cases if the animal is bathed heavily in it, it will remove it altogether. Just a hint from a professional. As far as this shot...I love it and I can soooooooo identify with that puppy's face. :-)

Ooh dear, poor Murphy, I bet he is thinking twice about going outside now. Imagine if it had been you that had gone out the door LOL. I've never smelt skunk but I hear it is pretty bad. I hope the above ideas help to remove the smell. Murphy doesn't look very happy in this gorgeous capture.

Oh Rita poor Murphy and he looks most put out doesn't he? Oh but the photo you took of him is really so adorable, bless him, Thank goodness we don't get skunks in our country!!! hugs Jane xx

Okay, this is going to sound VERY strange...but it does work! One of the best things I have found to take the skunk smell almost totally away is....Masingill Vinegar and Water douche. yes, I know, LOL. Our vet recommended it. At the time I was still living at home and my mom sent me to the store for some of the Masingill douche....we ended up needing 25 boxes since the dog that got sprayed was a St. Bernard. I'll tell you, I got some VERY strange looks from people when they noticed my shopping cart, LOL. And Animal Control Officer at work also swears by it.
