I first discovered photography at the age of 8or 9 when i was given an old box brownie and after a couple of years I progressed to a Kodak folding camera I remember it took a size 127 film.
My father built me a dark room in the loft and I spent many hours learning about processing and printing my films, both black and white and colour. when marrige and family came along time for the processing side of photography had to take a back seat.  After 50 years working we retired to Chard in Somerset southwest England (we think it could be the best part of the world). About 3 years ago we got into digital photography , recently my son Ian who has a site on renderosity (iambrose) talked me into joining, I am so glad he did as it's so nice to read the comments and see how other people view your pictures.Â

An unusual view, it does however show off just how much greenery Durham has. Most take it from the traditional shot from down by the river with the archaeology museum in view, a good shot but done to death (and, as been typical of the past couple of years, grey sky). I know the building well, over the years I've drawn it, photographed it and to a certain degree modelled (parts of) it and it's surrounding buildings for an interactive project during my HND (I only live a couple of towns away, a mere 15 minute drive).

Fantastic shot! Looks like you took that one from the roof. Nice view from up there. :)

No mistaking that central tower. Nice POV for a change.

Whenever I see images of these huge cathedrals or castles, I think of how overwhelming they must have been to townspeople when the other buildings were modest and small. This gives an idea of that. Excellent capture!

As 'g puvis' has mentioned above the usual shot (which I also have done) has been done to death and this is a refreshing POV. The view from the top of the tower is wonderful - though it's been many years since I have been up there. Well done.
