What a tangled web we weave...
Captured back on 1/26/08, during my pretaillight era, on the grounds of a local high school within walking distance of my hallowed haunt.
Check it out full size for better detail.
Toodles, and thankx for the peek.

Wow, this tree is just amazing!! I'm not up on trees, so I don't know what kind it is, but looking at it from a distance, it looks like a perfectly shaped tree....and then you look at the closer pics, and you can see how knarly it actually is.

Poor trees need an aborist to thin them out...or maybe just a regular guy with a ladder and a saw:) I always like the patterns of knarly old tree branches. Nicely captured Harry!

I love trees and naked ones especially! I'm very happy to see the first shot, which shows what a magnificent shape and size this tree has. I really love the second shot with all the branches shooting out which ever way they please. Excellent shots all! I was taking similar shots today but with a very differently shaped tree! Happy Thanksgiving!

isn't it amazing how those of us who do montages always elicit favorites from our fans? It's so natural to pick a favorite panel---the first, the middle, the last, etc. But for me, they're all beautiful & strange & bleak & full at the same time. I like the sequence from the whole tree to a final shot with its more bluish & pure winter light. And nice that you caught it when school was either out of session or in session so no one was outside: The upper shot is perfect for a winter tree, abandoned with a low sky and a decent share of land with no one on it. The fence & playing field look all the more abandoned. (And I see that LA is as flat as Chicago, if it weren't for those pesky mountains that surround the place!) The middle piece is painted with sunlight, like someone poured it over the tree; and the bottom is (as I say) more pure, where we see the tangle of branches. A bleak triptych in a way, but it's winter and winter is bleak; but it has the quiet solitude of winter, which is rich in its own way. I had to comment on this because it hit me so immediately when I saw it. Very fine work Harry, and a side of LA that we northerly types don't usually get to see. I'm very glad you posted this. A quiet portrait of a january moment, and a truly majestic tree in the center of it all.
