Description

In the early years of exploration, before the first interstellar war, a few ships proved to be flexible and reliable enough that they found themselves in many uses for a very long time. The ship that came to be called "The Muleship" wasn't originally called that by its builders, but once a journalist coined the term nothing else seemed to fit so well. The ship was incredibly rugged, powerful enough for many uses, and got the job done. It was, however, not exactly pretty. And thus the name seemed to fit. This variant was used for transporting passengers on longer trips, the rotating rings compensating for zero gravity. Even after the war, old-timers still talked about the "Muleships" with fondness. They were stubborn, but they got the job done. ------------- Revisiting my recent ship model, this time with a new twist. I'm using a modified version of my previous post, just toned-down the nebula somewhat to keep it from taking away from the ship. As usual, ship is my own creation in Bryce, with mostly my own textures, the background, compositing and effects are all in Photoshop. Thanks for taking a look, and comments/suggestions/critiques are certainly appreciated.

You're sure getting a lot of mileage--er, I mean AUs--out of your model modules, aren't you?

Wonderful ship design. I just looked at your more recent post (a variation of this design) and I have to say that I hope to see more of both. I love twin-wheel ships, especially since they present the challenge (to special effects people) of needing the habitat rings to actually rotate in opposite directions (this reduces torque stresses on the ship's longitudinal hull section) and your viewing blister, window thingies are actually in the exact right positions (facing fore and aft) since the "floor" would actually curve along each ring! Oh, I love that bit of accuracy. One of my pet peeves is seeing a cool ship design that couldn't possibly work simply because the "windows" are in the wrong place, and are bright, which indicates either super-advanced technologies that would preclude the need for spin gravity, or floors with transparent sections...which would be cool, but all to often, people don't think in that direction. Anyway, enough of that. I love this! Your muleships remind me of the best Terran Trade Authority Handbook type art, though more realistic and less (1980s) in design. Super work!
