I am 58 years young, live in Johannesburg, South Africa and I'm a true product of my continent. I love the bush, the animals, sunshine, sunsets - oh well, anything to do with nature. I am unmarried and have three sons - 37, 33 and 30 respectively and three granddaugters aged 12, 6 and 4 respectively and obviously the light of my life! Photography has always been a passion and I have loved it since I can remember. I was still using a SLR camera and only switched to digital only in late 2007! My other passion is travel and I have been lucky enough to have travelled fairly widely. There are however still many, many places I would love to visit "one day." I am truly an amateur photographer and do it merely as a hobby. So please be gentle when you comment on my work. :-) Thank you Piet, my dear friend, for convincing me to place my work on Renderosity. You owe me one! Hugs, Carin xx

I had the same idea as Mike. For just a second I thought 'Turkey?' Ostrich meat was very popular here for a while back in the 1980s through early 1990s. An excellent shot but it doesn't look like there is anyplace to hide. Makes for a nervous bird.

you really don't see the colors of those in zoos around here ..great job!!

A sterling image of the ostrich amidst the African terrain, Carin!

I would have said turkey as well---guess that's because I ate way too much the other day!1 Beautiful foto of this exotic creature--one I'll most likely never see in the wild!!

Great ostrich capture Carin. We have a breeding park about an hour north of me and the ostriches are grays and tans. I love how the still savannah fades into that beautiful cloudy sky. Dana

He's quite stunning! Your photograph prompted me to do a little research, so now I feel slightly more informed about these birds. (So I know those black feathers mean this is a mature male.) What a wonderful image!

Ostriches are such weird birds. I saw some in Texas of all places and they were released from the truck that had been transporting them. There was a small lake nearby, and the first thing they all did was race to that lake and go wading like some of the weirdest looking aquatic birds to ever grace the face of the earth. Apparently ostriches and water get along really well. I think of that whenever I see this, because ostriches fascinate me. I think it's because their heads look so small! Of course its their plumage that does it...without those fancy, flamboyant feathers, they'd look more like dinosaurs, which makes them even more appealing to me! As for this photo, it's great! I love the vista you've captured. It's always nice to see critters, but it's an extra treat to see them in the context of where they actually live! Wonderful work.
