Description

Following the First Interstellar War humans seemed to be looking for things to be optimistic about. There was a sudden leap forward as new starships were introduced, new areas of exploration were opened up, and a demonstration-project was showing that large scale terraforming just might be possible. As a result, several more of such projects were launched, even though they knew full well it could be hundreds of years before any substantial gain would come from them. Here, a couple of Horizon-class ships (also newly introduced after the war, and just before the skirmish now known as "The Shortest War") are stopping in to check on just such a project. The mirrors are drifting out of ideal alignment, and less sunlight is falling on a Mars-like planet. The troubleshooters will adjust the programs, and get things back into their more ideal working order for the next 5-10 years. Humanity's long march will continue apace. -------------- I've dabbled with such massive constructs before, and was never quite satisfied with them. These are an improvement, but it seems likely they will be tinkered with some more over time. Most of this was modeled in Bryce 6, while the planet received some help from the "Lunarcell" plugin by Flaming Pear. The starscape and the nebula are all done in Photoshop. Thanks for taking a look everyone, hope you're having a good weekend.

The planet helps create a sense of scale. These ships must be huge! Cool sci-fi models and render.

Nice scaffolding on those mirrors! It looks a lot better than faking it with blended transparent materials, but I bet it eats memory and file size...

Very cool render! Can see that you've put a lot of work into it; and your commentary is interesting as well.

I love that you've humanity dealing with macro engineering and stuff like that. Your mirror arrays are wonderfully done...enough to make NASA and the ESA drool, if you ask me. The details are great and your starship modeling is top notch as always...I get the impression those ships are big and against the backdrop of the mirrors and the planet and open space, they look so tiny. NOT fragile, just tiny! Wonderful work. You're making me want to go listen to one of the Battlestar Galactica soundtracks. That's always a good thing.
