Description

May I present a speciality from this little area of the country. "Peppernuts" is the free translation of the word "Pebernødder". They have nothing to do with Pepper or Nuts. It is actually very little peaces of bread. Sweet and made of bolted rye flour and full of spices. They are soft, but if you let them dry, you can use them as dices or bullets. LOL! and they last for long time. That is my experience. As a little girl I found a few of them in my toy box half a year after Christmas and they still tasted good LOL! Only few people like them, if they didnt grow up with them, because of their consistence. I made them together with my Nephew and his Wife yesterday. We had such fun. The doug is very heavy, so my nephew was doing the hard work :-) In older days the fishermen often put a handful in the pocket when going fishing. They were good as snacks, or if they got a bit hungry. Now DONT tell my brother Palle, I made them. He would take the first aeroplane from Malaga to get some. He adores them. LOL! Thank you so much for your kind comments to my previous post and special warm thanks to those who added it to their favorites. Have a wonderful unstressful week. Weather is grey, not very cold, but rainy. Peacful, but no wind. Dont know if I like it or not :)

I have to add, that these peppernuts are not the traditional peppernuts for this country, That few in USA might know, but very different from them. Yes these look like dog food. LOL !

I learn such fun things on RR! I remember pulling candy one time when I was a child. We had read about it in a book, probably "Little House on the Prairie" and thought it sounded like such fun. Unfortunately, we didn't have a strong nephew and grew tired before it reached the right consistency. We finished, but the thrill was gone. We also ended up with butter in our hair and hair in our candy. You all did a much better job here. Great capture of it too!

They look very tempting, and I shall have to take a break and go and eat something. Isn't it sad that I'm so very suggestible!LOL!

these are sold in holland around this time of the year - made for 'sinterklaas' (sant claus) who comes on december 5 and gives sweets and presents to nice and obedient children. we call them 'pepernoten' (i hate the stuff because there is aniseed in it - yuk)

I would try at least one, unless if as Koosie says, they have anise seed. Then ... not so much! LOL!

oh Helle, I know them from my childhood too, and I just love them...smile... so I have to say I never made them myself but we got them from the Christmas. Market at our town... so my cudos to you for making them yourself, the smell of them must have been wonderful

These do look gooood Helle. I had no idea what they were from your thumbnail. Maybe a fisherman could even use them as bait for fish with a sweet tooth:-)

I love to see the responses you get when you post food shots. Great stuff. I love these little things, they look delicious, and with your description I'm just dying to know what they taste like. If they're unique to your area, I guess I'll have to specify when I go to a Danish bakery. It's also a really fun shot because you caught their 'flour glow'---that white glow flour gets when it's still powdery. And yeah, it does look a little like dogfood, lol. (Does Magnus eat it? Or does he say, "boy you humans, you have some straaaange eating habits...") And why is it everytime you post food, I gain 40 pounds? Love the image, love the look of the food. And I love that they're good 6 months later. That's sturdy food! Thanks for sharing this with your fans.

You know, Helle...these actually look like something they'd bake in Agara; just take the Number 8 train to get there and try them. They're good. And a bit heavy. Okay, back to this side of reality. I love to explore cultures through food. I didn't experience these in Prague, which means that they just didn't catch on among Czechs, but that's okay...I'll just come to Denmark to try them. I love their color and their neat, cubical shapes. The idea that they're made by hand is absolutely super! I love that kind of stuff. This is a great, appetizing shot. Unlike Koosie and a few others, I have no idea if I like these or not, but they're compelling me to try them. They have anise seed? Interesting, the only anise-flavored stuff I know of is the kind of stuff that makes you very drunk as well.
