Description

Welcome, and thank you for stopping in. The white cliffs set the background of the Vermilion cliffs wilderness. The Teepees seen in the near distance are close to making the border here in the Coyote buttes wilderness. This is the east wall and thinnest side of the amphitheater. Can imagine someday that this may not be an amphitheater at all as the winds come from the west sand blasting this wall. This will be the last post of the outside. Anyone for going into the amphitheater? Mentioning the outside, there are a few white patches of snow the sun has yet been able to reach. This area is very cold in winter and unbearably hot come May through October. Tried hiking this with a friend in the summer months and she was unable to continue past "The Swirl" (pls. see gallery). lol... is a matter a fact she consumed both canteens and I never heard the end of how hot that hike was both during the hike and forever after. :~) Speaking of which, I have had a burning desire to return here around April of 2010. The response to this series that started back in my gallery on July 26th has prompted me to extend an offer as guide. If anyone has an interest please feel free to drop a line. Thanks for all the wonderful comments on the last post. A kind thank you to anyone that added it as a favorite.
