Description

Even our birdlife has been suffering lately, with no rain around, for the past few months... talking about El Nino in full swing here on the East Coast, even our Australian Magpies (gymnorhina tibicen) get to feel the brunt of the big DRY. Every morning now I replenish, their water bowls and if I forget by chance, they will even find their own sources nearby...just check above! ...in return they reward me with their rich, melodious songs, carolling duets and prolonged powerful song battles with neighbouring groups. But you have to watch them, when the spring breeding season approaches, they will dive-bomb and attack! Cheers *BB*

Beautiful photos of this sleek looking magpie. The birds need so much water don't they. I have 4 containers of water in my garden just to be sure they don't run out and often they empty the baths in one go for their showers. I hope you get some rain up your way soon. I'll send you some of ours.

What a gorgeous bird! I love the fact that they dive bomb and attack during mating season...the remind me of a few people I know...and yeah, those particular people have been called thieving magpies on occasion! Great images here; I'd trade some of Chicago's wonderfully icy chill for a bit of warmth. As always, great work, and though I'm a bit late...well, late for Christmas anyway, Happy Holidays to you!
