Description

"Novus Spes Refugium - New Hope Refuge: This was the very first terraforming project undertaken by humanity, begun by the family of the inventor of the Portals that made interstellar travel possible. They'd disappeared before the war, and only re-appeared after the fighting had ended, announcing the project, and displaying a result that shocked all of human-space. Until that point, no world had been found that could support human life without considerable assistance. Life was out there, to be sure, but so far nothing like a garden world where humans could live in a "shirt sleeve" environment. This world wasn't there, yet, but was moving toward that goal, and was closer than any had believed possible in such a short time. This, combined with the sense of relief and hope following the end of the war resulted in an incredible burst of creativity, exploration, and outward expansing of settlements. Humanity had re-discovered their power to dream" From the introduction to "The time that changed the future" by popular historian Veritas Glau. ------------- I'm still playing with my terraforming mirrors, trying to find the best way to use them in an image. The only thing that I don't like about this angle is that you can't see the support framework that I'd worked so hard on building. Oh well. The planet was a combination of a Bryce render, and the Lunarcell plugin for Photoshop. The stars were partly the "Glitterato" plugin, and a fair amount of alterations in Photoshop. The ships are also my own creations, built and rendered in Bryce. Thanks for taking a look, everyone, and I hope you've had a good weekend!

Another great image! I guess this answers my question over which terraformation was first.

Love the POV and overall scene and models...perhaps another planet or a gas cloud behind the mirrors would show off the structure somewhat...very cool concept!

Cost, terraforming, the universal coordinates of a planet can live for Humanity! than metaphysical anguish at the moment because nothing is urgent here thousands of years ... unless the laws of chance, m ^ me they have the population of the Earth 'Humanity, play their roles in reverse, so a' spaceship 'just queleques kilometers long, it could quickly eradicate our fellows, by a precipitous drop on the ground floor! Beautiful composition, wonderful project!

More evocative stuff. Your brain is an interesting place. Those mirrors intrigue me because they can be used for all sorts of things...terraforming is just one possibility. Others are grim, weapons-related uses, and still others involve even more exotic construction techniques. As your historian so succinctly put it, humanity has (re)discovered the ability to dream, and wow...what dreams await us in the universe you're constructing? Wonderful work. Your modeling and composition is--as always--top notch.

It's a shame you can't see more of the support structures in the mirrors, but what's visible looks good. Your planets are awesome, as usual.

I also love the phrase picked out by Chipka: "Humanity had rediscovered their power to dream". Imaginative and beautifully put together.

Like the planet and the way the light falls on the spaceships--like it really would be in space. The atmospheric haze is good too; although I wonder if it might be a tad thicker than it should be. I can see why you'd be disappointed with the way the support framework does not show up on the mirrors--although there are several good hints as to the work you did on them. Superb image!
