Description

Bryce6.1/DazStudio/Photoshop/Photoscape3.3 This one's for egehlin and faroutsider, who wanted to see more of this world...let's hope they have had all the necessary shots before they embark on this quest! The scene was created in Bryce, with modified textures. Most of the landscape is composed of terrains, with one set of lattices for interesting rock formations.I duplicated some of the terrains and used a foliage texture to give the impression of forest growth.Sky,lighting and atmo are custom.Figures are Michael 3,with Major Cache bodysuits,Hard Core boots and weapons from both of these sets...all from Daz3D and posed in DazStudio. The backpack was created in Bryce.Foreground foliage includes two trees from a set for Bryce(also from Daz). The scene was rendered in Superfine. Then I saved the sky,and because of computer memory issues,I opened a new scene in Bryce, imported the sky,and then imported three pteranadons from DazStudio.I rendered at same settings, saved image,re-posed in DazStudio and re-rendered.I did this five times, ending up with different poses. In Photoshop,I opened each pteranadon image, removed the background with the magic wand tool, and was left with images on transparent backgrounds. These I then dragged into the main image, and positioned in place.Because I rendered these with the same sky settings, they fit perfectly into the scene as if they were in the original render.I then added layers of waterfalls using free brushes from Qbrushes.com, extra fog layers and vines, painted in the hair on the figures,as well as cloning out the hard edges of the duplicated terrains rendered in foliage mats.I then flattened the image and added my signature. In Photoscape I tweaked the levels and added a bloom effect...and there we have it,the beginning of a new journey into a primitive world! Thanks for viewing and any comments you wish to leave!

Cool image...I'm sure you agree it could be a bit more detailed but...the concept is exceptional....love the idea and overall design!!

Excellent image! Great terrains! Another trick you could do in Bryce is to render an object mask and then use the mask in Photoshop to get rid of the background (except I usually do it in PSP, because for some reason masks in Photoshop confuse me.)

What a wonderful, exotic and magnificent landscape. Your piece is as much a lesson in postwork as a fantastic scene. Too cool! Like geirla, I like to render an object mask, then use Photoshop's "select color range" tool to grab the shape so I can copy/paste from one image to another. We're all sharing postworking tricks here, now! Great scene!

The advantage to this method as opposed to the object mask is that I can place the object(in this case the various pteranadons)anywhere in the scene, and adjust the size, angle and intensity of colour. An object mask,as far as I've been able to tell, only works for the object rendered in it's place in the scene, and can't be moved(or at least not that I've been able to do!).Thanks for the comments, and for sharing your tips with all of us!

Jabs - check. Thermal armour - check. Weaponry - check. Camera - where the heck is it? Oh well, I'll just have to rely on you to bring back more images..... Marvelous image, Neil. I'm always astonished by how much work goes into your renders, and the lucid descriptions of the process. Thanks so much for taking us back to this primeval wilderness, and for the dedication.

A powerful surrealistic landscape. Brings to mind the Lost World classic and here we stand at the rift that once joined Africa and South America. Again you play your strong suit with dramatic depths and finely controlled haze.
