Description
Captured 10/25/09, at the 8th Annual Wings Wheels Rotors & Expo, held at the beautiful Joint Forces Training Base (JFTB) in beautiful Los Alamitos, California.
After passing through the gates of the JFTB, one of the first booths I encountered was this weapons display, put on by the 'To Serve and Protect' Los Angeles Police Department. Although outside of their jurisdiction, they were well represented at the event.
This booth was so popular I had to elbow my way in through the crowd to get these shots.
That is my shadow in the top picture.
Better viewed full size.
I know the basic weapons such as rifles, machine guns, pistols, automatics, shotguns, grenades, tear gas, mace, tasers, batons; even Glocks, Berettas and Lugers, but that is just about where my expertise ends within this genre. I'm sure there are gun experts out there in RR that can name all of these weapons, plus the individual details, such as caliber, make and model numbers, without hesitation.
I don't know about the gals, but the guys should like this collage.
Anyway, just more proof that I will photograph anything, be it orchids or cockroaches.
If it exists, I'll snap it.
Toodles, and thankx for clicking on.

Lol! I can live without the roaches!!! These are great shots Harry. I wouldn't want one of these but I grew up on a farm and learned to shoot at an early age...back then it was popular to go to the city dump and shoot the rats! For years I had a 32 Smith and Wesson, small, light weight and fit easily into my pocket for protection. Know what I shot with it? The tires on my step fathers truck so he couldn't leave after beating my mother...since we lived in the country it kept him there long enough for the cops to come:-) I firmly believe in the right to bear arms but the type of guns that the drug dealers use should have some kind of penalty to stop them...All in all these are of historical value and very well done! Thank you for adding me as a fav artist, I am adding you too:-) Lynn

My uncle collected guns...allll kinds of guns. He was a cop...right into them...so to me this looks like his Gun Room wall he had before he died (not of gun inflicted wound though). lol

Quite the "Load", I'd say. Great job getting the clear shots with all those people trying to sneak a peak. They all look pretty scary to me... (the guns, not the people.)

I know nothing about guns, but they sure do look interesting.

Nice collage Harry. I think the people are more scary than the guns ;)

some of these guns look like it against the law to have them so the good people do not have them but the bad people like drug dealers and outlaws and terror people do have them to use on the good people. very good photos

An interesting social comment, that Police went from a .38 revolver and the odd shotgun, to the 'Tommy Gun' in the 30's to THIS!.Not a reflection of the Police force, more the criminals they face.Being a Brit, we don't see too many of these..the H&K in the second image is our Polce force's weapon of choice when needed. Had to smile, all securely chained....with a big pair of bolt cutters on the table :)

Great shots Harry... I'm not a huge firearm fan as they do remind me of violence, war, hurt, heartache and hunting animals (which I despise the most)... I did however possessed a Walter PPK pistol for self defence which was stolen when my house got broken onto some years ago. So now - no more!

Impressive collection of firepower Harry, intriguing places you go to! Great capture!

Not a fan of guns, but your collages are always fascinating!

Interesting pics, but the content is not my scene.

Excellent collage Harry but my expertise stops before these "modern" weapons were born. Give me an M-1 Garand and a Colt-45. Well done my friend.

Looks like the sort of thing I was shown on the Grand Tour! LOl Also the kind of thing I blast away with in Call Of Duty... (thats a video game Harry!) A VERY accurate game... Way cool.. Great shot... I do like this sort of thing and was taken shooting on the Grand Tour.. Handed a M-1 and took my FIRST ever shot on a full size range with an M-1.. And got a dead centre bull.... The guys were a BIT amazed! AND so was I.... lol Great shots.. Rob

My husband would like this more than I do. Nice to see your shadow though!

it's always amazing what kind of devices are invented to protect but also to kill, they all look mighty dangerous to me... I am so glad I could put the collection of guns and weapons my father had put in careful hands and got them out of my moms house by the end of the year...

I love to see all the comments, since this montage brings out a lot of thought, memory & feeling. Amazing from Lynn, and some others too. I once picked up & shot an old fashioned shotgun (can't tell you the model) and nearly took out my shoulder. I got a lot of respect for their power after that. As with Jodie, these do look scary full size, but as with you, you capture anything because you're a photographer & you look for the shot wherever it calls you. With all of the guns lying side by side, they're almost a big spill of stuff; they don't look like guns in some ways, but big toys. In the hands of a shooter, they'd suddenly become a deadly weapon, but like this, they feel like they're lounging and having a cup of coffee. And I see you moved from many to fewer to fewer (closer & closer). The journey once more. Fascinating capture, because they become abstract shapes as well as serious weapons; and we can see them for their peculiar ebbs & flows. And yeah (w/ jodie), I didn't think about it---because I'm still inexperienced at photography---but you got them with almost no human interference, and very few shadows as well. You're good at that, and I'm sure there are photographers who'd pay you for your secrets, lol...
