Description

As DeAnn and I hiked thru Fern Canyon the other day, we were faced with a LOT of stairs and steps like these. The trails are fairly well kept up, but you really don't want to take your eye off the road for long, there are some very sneaky places that will knock you on your,,well, on that part of your anatomy you sit on. Did I sit on it--oh yeah, I did, more than once!! On the left--see that handrail??? Do NOT even try to hang on, it's slipperier than the proverbial snot. That was the first time I sat down!! And yes, we walked all the way to the bottom, which of course meant we had to climb back up. Fortunately, we stopped a LOT to take fotos---and by gosh, that climb wasn't bad at all!!

Stairs are deceitful, aren't they? They look so nice and easy, then before you know it you're huffing and puffing... it does look like a wonderful walk!

Love the title, Marilyn, sort of fits where I am right now:-) Great shots both and your description made me laugh, thank you for that! Oh I would be afraid of the one without the handrail, thats pretty steep! Well for an oldie like me anyway.

Ok notation to self, Fern Canyon is slippery, Wear sure grip shoes and have sure grip work gloves if visiting. Got it. From the shots I have seen so far it is a beautiful place to hike. Another great ..... wait two shots.

Well, I'm glad you're okay after that hazardous adventure. If I were to fall under those circumstances there would be all heck to pay. Call 911, like now! Anyway, nice captures of the well beaten path and stairway, Maz. And I hope you were wearing your celebrated flip-flops while negotiating the trails and stairs.

Thanks for taking us down...bump, bump, bump...with you. And now back...puff, puff, puff...with you. I didn't get to the gym today but that's OK, I've been to Fern Canyon instead:)

Very lovely captures of the trek you went on lol.. wold love to do the walk there.. Just out of Huntly where we have our house (though not living there at present) there is a walk one can do to see some big kauri trees. At the bottom of the track by the car park there is a sign that warns that there are 1500 steps on the walk, and I have done it a quite a few times and they are not kidding there would be at least that many as well as the sloping tracks...

What a beautiful trail! I can see where you would have to keep an eye out. Wet = slippery!!

(man, that "New Deal" joke was outa sight...) (ok, I'll get off it...) Nice capture of stairs like these. We actually have them in the northerly portions of Lake Michigan. I never knew how one was supposed to traverse them: They look pretty treacherous. But now that I have a camera, I too can understand stopping to take shots; and it does make climbing & descending a lot easier. I like all your series; series from one place: We get a panorama of where you've been. And the color here looks very purple: It must be a beautiful valley, even in winter...

I like this a lot. I love treacherous stairs sometimes carved into natural surrounding, sometimes overgrown BY natural surroundings. At any rate...there and not exactly climbable. As for landing on your tukkus (did I spell that right?) well, that's all a part of the fun! These are great images! I love the textures and that quiet "fern" mood that you really captured well here! Wonderful!
