I am 58 years young, live in Johannesburg, South Africa and I'm a true product of my continent. I love the bush, the animals, sunshine, sunsets - oh well, anything to do with nature. I am unmarried and have three sons - 37, 33 and 30 respectively and three granddaugters aged 12, 6 and 4 respectively and obviously the light of my life! Photography has always been a passion and I have loved it since I can remember. I was still using a SLR camera and only switched to digital only in late 2007! My other passion is travel and I have been lucky enough to have travelled fairly widely. There are however still many, many places I would love to visit "one day." I am truly an amateur photographer and do it merely as a hobby. So please be gentle when you comment on my work. :-) Thank you Piet, my dear friend, for convincing me to place my work on Renderosity. You owe me one! Hugs, Carin xx

very interesting and I never seen such a place for harvesting salt

The thumbnail looked like snow and despite the warning in your title, I was still surprised. Super contrast with the background piles of salt and the sky. Wonderful DOF and textures in the foreground. Love the tour of SA that you are giving us. Dana

A very interesting shot, Carin!.. This is something i don't think I've seen before on Rendo... A first? Outstanding.... and yes! We could do with it on the roads.. although it has started raining now.. so... That will freeze... Uuugh! Rob

WOW! How did I miss this? I blame Corey; he was probably saying something funny, or just being good company, which totally distracted me from looking at amazing pictures of places I've never seen before. And yes, this is amazing! I've even imagined salt harvests, and the fact that salt must wait (like any other crop) to ripen. I've seen mounds of the stuff, though--I live in Chicago, after all, and we use white stuff in order to melt that other white stuff that's really cold and slippery whenever the lake effect weather decides to go from fickle to just downright ludicrous. I really must visit the African continent, which is odd since I live in an area where the African-derived residents who claim to be like me all insist on visiting "Da Muthah-land," despite their lack of passports and geographical awareness, or a willingness to cross anything other than the neighborhood street. I really like this photo...it's an amazing glimpse into everyday life...way the heck over there, and I wonder just how much of that salt makes its way to Chicago dinner tables, or blood pressure readings at Cook County Hospital. This is as amazing as so much of the other stuff you post! And I truly love it! This image is making a trip into my favorites' file!
