Description

This image is dedicated to Roxy (brewgirlca). She is one of the sweetest ladies I know, and she has been my friend for a long time. She uses the programs (Poser-7, photoshop CS4 and PSPX2) and is a very talented lady. Roxy brings stories to life in her art. My personal favorites are the stories of Ishtar, which are both beautiful and exciting when told by her. A trip in her gallery is like a journey through time, and it is a trip you should make soon. You will soon discover she has the talent to make any vision come to life, just as she did in the story she told to me. This story shows what great character she has, and that Roxy can do anything she desires because her will is so strong. Look Mom, No Wheels (For brewgirlca): Roxy grew up in a small town, so the only way to get around was by bike. All the kids had training wheels on their bikes, but eventually the other kid’s dads and older brothers taught them how to ride. All too soon Roxy became the only kid with training wheels and of course that was unacceptable! It meant being left out of the gang rides. Roxy asked her Dad to help her learn, but he worked very long hours and was often on the road for many days at a time; his home life time with her was always short. So if she was gonna learn to ride a bike she would have to do it herself. So one day she got a pair of pliers from her Dad’s toolbox and took off the training wheels herself. She set the bike up against the wall in the garage, and climbed on the seat. Then in one swift motion she pushed off the wall but soon fell down. she got up, did it again and fell down once more. This happened many times, but after a while she glided a few feet before falling. Over and over she tried and her mom told her to stop. She would not quit no matter how much it hurt. Failure was not possible! Finally she could glide all the way to the road! But, oh my, then she had to make a turn. And you know what happened… yep, she fell down. Finally, it happened, she glided down the driveway, turned- without falling- peddled a few strokes… and to her delight realized she was at long last riding her bike without those silly training wheels! Her dog Candace saw Roxy gliding down the street and began to follow her barking all the way, almost as if she was cheering her on. Her Mom heard the noise and ran outside to see what was going on. She saw Roxy and Candace going down the street and was so proud of her daughter. At last Roxy could once more be a part of the gang. Even more important, that day Roxy learned if she tried hard enough and believed in herself she could make her dreams come true. Cute render, and quite the story of perseverance! I'm glad my transition to a bike without training wheels wasn't so painful!

well first of all, dave, you have a beautiful story here, and you gave it a beautiful treatment. A story all of us can relate to (ie, finally doing something ourselves as kids, and succeeding at it by trying & trying). But what struck me first was the deep space you got in this piece: It has the feeling of a large open area, with mysterious space all around it. Maybe you've channeled Roxy's art along with her mythic sensibility, and infused it into the deep atmosphere of this piece! Like the space is imbued with some of those ancient spirits she evokes in her art. I say this because you don't always have this much open space: I find it an integral part of the piece, and quite enticing. Again, there's your wonderful sense of detail: The flower on her blouse echoed by the flowers on the basket & her shoes; the hearts in the wheels; even the wear & tear & textures of the wheel covers. There are flowers in the pant cuffs, embroidery on the pants, pink throughout the bike (even on the bell ringer!) and so on. You know what I mean, the many fine details you pack into your pieces like loving gifts for everyone to find. And she & the dog are in very expressive postures: I don't do 3D (I have a hard enough time with 2D!), but I know that getting this kind of expression is hard; and you get it everytime. The dog is in perfect harmony with Roxy, and Roxy is bending over just enough to acknowledge the dog. But then there's the big open wall of the house, washed in a deep green shadows, with shadowed windows to match---all mysterious to me. And the red house in the distance, enticingly mysterious, sitting there so bright & making us wonder, who's in there! And the field is open too, with hills in the background. Even the mailbox has a touch of red bursting into all that green. And Roxy's mom---also finely rendered in one of your typical in-movement motions---casts such a long & mysterious shadow! You must've been in a very introspective mood when you made this, I love the shadows & mystery, and they set off Roxy so nicely (in her reds, blues & pinks). I like her hair too: a few little locks on her forehead doing their thing... Another very thoughtful & fine-tuned render from you, capturing another story of childhood aspiration & joy, and filled with mystery and beauty. You did it again. Sorry I'm so late: I left RR around the time you posted this, and have only come back just now. But it's a pleasure to come to your gallery once more: It's always a journey of love & celebration! I'll write to you soon, I owe you a letter. And I hope you're healing well, Dave!

My dad worked long hours, too, so my aunt taught me how to ride a two-wheeler. I took off like a shot, and never looked back. It was called freedom. I'll never forget it. ;c)

Your work is always so full of personality and life. I love the worried expression, the little dog and the mother in the background watching. How awesome that you got the neighbor hood in there at that angle, the home, the car, the neighbor's house. Your eye is so neat!
