Description

"Scattered showers with sun breaks," is an often heard weather report in the greater Seattle area. An out of towner would typically wrinkle up his or her nose and say, "Whaaat?" So, I was fortunate enough to encounter this image yesterday at the Mukilteo Beach north of Seattle on the Puget Sound. NOW, THAT'S A SUN BREAK! Please ZOOM...big difference. Beautiful. Makes me homesick! I grew up and lived many years not far from Mukilteo.

When I read the words "sun break" I think of dam-like structures built, possibly by the Dutch, since they are Earth's first real terraformers. I imagine them as stone, or earthen structures built to...well...provide sunbreaks, just in case solar tides are a wee bit too high. Having said that, WOW! What an image! It's restful and inspiring in so many ways. I love this!

Ominous black clouds hang over the sleepless metropolis of Seattle, as the sun makes a temporary appearance in this terrific capture, Bill. Terrific ambiance and contrast!
